District 90 Starts Strategic Planning Process

District 90 Starts Strategic Planning Process

District 90 held its first Strategic Planning Team meeting on November 12. This meeting represents the initial step in creating the 2020-25 District 90 Strategic Plan, which is slated to be presented to the Board of Education by May 2020. When completed the strategic plan will help the District determine goals for the next five years, revamp the District’s overall vision, and prepare it to leverage upcoming opportunities for growth and improvement. More than 40 District stakeholders have volunteered to serve on the planning committee, including parents and family members, administrators, River Forest Education Association leadership, faculty, staff, Board of Education members, community members, our equity partner, and former students.

Partnering with the District throughout this process is the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC). The CEC is a nonprofit organization that works with teachers, school and district administrators, school boards, teacher unions, and parents to improve student learning and achievement. The CEC facilitator for the strategic planning process is Perry Soldwedel, who has a great deal of professional experience as a facilitator, classroom teacher, school and district administrator, and school superintendent. This is the second time that the CEC is helping the District to create a strategic plan.

The planning process began with a half-day meeting on November 12 when team members learned about their roles and responsibilities and how the process is expected to proceed. The November kickoff will be followed by three full-day meetings and a final half-day meeting. These sessions will include a day devoted to reviewing District data, refining long-range goals, and reevaluating District 90’s vision, mission, and values.
