Are you interested in understanding more about what your child is learning in math at District 90? Visit our new Core Math for Parents website, which is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for math. The site provides definitions and overviews by grade level of what your child is learning this year. Resources for kindergarten through fourth grade are available on the site, while segments for fifth through eighth grade are in development. The website also explains the strategies that are intended to deepen your student’s understanding of math concepts. The overarching goal is to help your child build a strong sense of math concepts that encourage thinking like a mathematician. With the new standards in place, students will experience greater focus on fewer topics but with greater depth; improved coherence as math concepts are linked across subjects and grades to increase comprehension; and increased rigor to build conceptual development, skills, and real world application.
Your child’s teacher is the best resource for information about what happens in the classroom. District 90’s Core Math for Parents website is intended to complement communication with the teacher by providing information, examples, and assistance. For more information, please click here.
