Blended Return to School with Full Remote Option Approved

Blended Return to School with Full Remote Option Approved

At the October Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board of Education affirmed the District’s blended return to school plan, which includes the Full-Time Remote Learning Option. This plan provides for a return to in-person instruction for students in a blended instruction format, with the option of remaining with full remote instruction if that better meets a family’s needs.

To help families make an informed decision about whether to return to in-person instruction or continue with full remote instruction, attached is a description of the full remote option and the blended in-person instruction. Included with the instructional descriptions is the Full-Time Remote Learning Opt-in Form that must be completed and submitted if a family would like to continue with full remote instruction. The remote learning selection form must be submitted to the District by Tuesday, October 13. To view and download this information, please click on this link: Full Time Remote Learning Option 2020-21 School Year.

Students' return to school will be implemented through a phased-in approach. The exact date that students will return to school is aligned with their grade level. Below are the dates and grades when students are scheduled to return to school for blended in-person instruction. Please note that November 3 is a day of non-attendance for students and staff due to Election Day.

Using a phased-in approach for returning students to school has several benefits for families, students, faculty and staff, and schools. The process enables additional time for faculty planning and professional development as teachers modify their instructional practices for simultaneously providing in-person and remote instruction. This phased-in approach also enables the District to review and revise, as needed, any of the procedures and protocols to mitigate the risk of infection and ensure students' and staff members' safety. Further, several public health entities have cited a phased-in process as a best practice approach to returning students to in-person instruction.

Additional information will be forthcoming about a variety of issues, such as procedures for entering the school building, safety protocols, door assignments, and items to bring to school.
