Bright A+ Award — 1999 through 2012
An annual award for academic excellence given by SchoolSearch, a research firm that analyzes data from the annual Illinois School Report Card. Award recipients are among the top 5% of all Illinois school districts. Only 59 of 868 districts in Illinois were recognized with the Bright A+ Award in 2012.
Bright Red Apple Award — 1994 through 2013
Also given by SchoolSearch, this award is based on excellence in five categories: academic performance, pupil/teacher ratio, expenditure per pupil, educational level of teachers and average teacher salary. Only 79 of 868 districts won the award in 2012.
Academic Excellence Award — 2008 through 2012
Recognition given by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Northern Illinois University (NIU) to schools that have sustained very high academic performance over time. Only 438 schools—or just over 10 percent—in the state received the award for 2011. Schools must meet the following criteria:
- 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for at least three consecutive years
- Schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress
Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting — 1992-1996, 1998-2012
District 90 has won the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for 20 years. ASBO also has chosen District 90 to be the model for school districts of similar size, and to share its high-quality Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) on ASBO's website as a resource for other school business officials.
