2-Hour Delayed Open for Schools on Thursday January 8

District 90 schools will be open tomorrow, Thursday, January 8 with a two-hour delayed opening. The school day will begin for students at Lincoln and Willard Elementary Schools at 10:20 AM, and at Roosevelt Middle School at 10:30 AM. Staff are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance of student arrival. Dismissal will take place at the normal times, and students should plan to bring lunch (as normal). Lunch will be provided for students who qualify for Free-and-Reduced lunches. Please note that morning Kindergarten and morning Early Childhood  classes at both Lincoln and Willard Elementary remain cancelled on Thursday. Also, all school-sponsored after-school and evening activities are also cancelled.

While wind-chill temperatures tomorrow morning (Thursday) are expected to be similarly cold as today, two important elements were considered in the determination to hold a two-hour delayed opening.

1. The National Weather Service has downgraded the severity of weather conditions from a Wind Chill Warning to a Wind Chill Advisory. Though temperatures in the morning are still predicted to be very cold, this no longer qualifies them as "life-threatening" (by the National Weather Service definition).

2. Expected temperatures are expected to rise marginally by late morning, with the National Weather Service Wind Chill Advisory expiring at noon.

We believe that a delayed start on Thursday is appropriate in light of the challenges that the weather is providing. While our clear desire is to keep our schools open for learning, nothing is more important than the safety of our students and staff.
