For the 11th consecutive year, the River Forest school system has been recognized as one of the best in the state by the School Search Corporation, a national business that helps families seeking to relocate to towns with high quality school districts.

The Bright Red Apple Award, which is based on data gleaned from the 2004 Illinois Report Card, focuses on five key indicators of educational excellence, including academic performance, pupil/teacher ratio, expenditure per pupil, the educational level of district teachers, and average teacher salary.

District 90 was one of 70 elementary school districts and 22 high school districts to be recognized. Oak Park District 97 and Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 also received Bright Red Apples.

District 90 Supt. Marlene Kamm said her system never tires of being recognized for excellence.

"I think itŐs outstanding," she said Tuesday. "The school district continues to have excellent success, especially in our cores areas of math and science."

That success, said Kamm, stems from committed effort by both staff and students.

"Our teachers work very hard, our kids work very hard," she said.

That doesnŐt mean anyone will be resting on their laurels, though.

"ThereŐs always room for improvement," said Kamm. She added that her office received results from the ISAT tests on Monday, and are currently working to get those results forwarded to parents.
